Drama at North Catholic High School

2006 – 2007 was a banner year for the North Catholic Drama Department! In addition to the parts of the program that have become “traditional” – the one act plays, the fall musical and the spring musical, NC branched out in four new directions AND renewed an old practice! Students from North once again participated in the state sponsored drama competition and then, for the first time performed with the Strand Theater Initiative and the Pittsburgh Public Shakespeare Festival. In addition, the drama department sponsored a school wide talent show at which the newly formed dance team performed. We are looking forward to continuing all of these activities in the upcoming school year.

Philosophy of the Drama Department

The North Catholic drama department seeks to follow the Marianist directive of educating the whole person. Thus several opportunities for participation are offered throughout the year, with varying levels of involvement and commitment. Students may find themselves working alone or with others, but always with the common goal of creating a project that goes beyond their classroom experiences and that offers a chance to showcase talents that may not normally be seen.
